A former GameStop worker is facing theft charges for stealing Pokémon cards from one of his ex employer’s video game stores. Surveillance footage shows the incident unfolding at a location in Cleveland, Ohio on March 31. Despite being employed by GameStop at the time, the 34-year-old was in the store as a customer.

was able to leave the store without raising suspicion

He robbed two boxes of Pokémon cards and was able to leave without raising suspicion. It was only after staff looked at the surveillance footage that they saw what had occurred. The value of the stolen boxes is unclear, but it is likely that the sum is greater than $100.

Although originally gaining mass popularity around the turn of the 20th century, Pokémon cards have had a resurgence in recent years. Some of the most highly sought-after cards sell for millions of dollars.

Due to the increase in interest, the number of Pokémon card-related thefts has also risen. In perhaps the most notable case, a 62-year-old lost a card collection worth around $500,000 after it was stolen from his home in South Carolina last July.
