Several of the albums we reviewed in the past month highlight the legacies of some great artists. There is a live recording of octogenarian Neeme Jarvi leading the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and State Choir Latvija. There are highlights of Renée Fleming’s live performances at the Metropolitan Opera, and from Ludwig Güttler’s favorite recordings as he retires from concert life. Decca has issued excerpts from Georg Solti’s famous recording of Wagner’s Ring Cycle, which it has dubbed “The Golden Ring.” And yes, Bruno Walter was another legendary conductor, but he also composed, and the Aron Quartett (pictured) have recorded some of his chamber music. You’ll also find artists and music here that are already starting to gift listeners with fabled performances.
