Maximilian’s Ted Lasso character is based on Swedish soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Maximilian studied other soccer players to prepare for his role in the Emmy Award winning comedy. “I read tons of books to help me understand what these players are like at all times, from the field to the locker room. Why are they that way? How are they perceived and how do they let the press perceive them?” he told The Hollywood Reporter. Maximilian also said he was in disbelief when he was cast in the show. “You watch a show for two years as a fan and never imagine that one day you’ll be in a scene standing opposite Jason Sudeikis,” he said.

He’s from Austria.

Maximilian was born in Eisenstadt, Burgenland, in Austria, but relocated to the U.S. when he was little and was raised in Chicago. He eventually moved to New York City to study acting.

He starred in Agents of SHIELD.

Maximilian’s biggest job pre-Ted Lasso was the Marvel show Agents of SHIELD. He had a recurring role as Agent Davis. Maximilian also appeared in Shameless, New Amsterdam, and MacGyver. He was in the 2020 movie Greyhound with Tom Hanks.

He’s married to an actress.

Maximilian has been married to Australian actress Dichen Lachman since 2015. Dichen stars in the hit Apple TV+ series Severance. She also had a recurring role in Agents of SHIELD, just like her husband.

He’s a father.

Maximilian and Dichen are parents to their 7-year-old daughter Mathilda, who was born in May 2015. Maximilian has shared such cute photos of their family of three on his Instagram, including when they took a vacation to Italy in summer 2022.
